Pastor W. Carlin Dempsey

King's Highway Baptist Church Senior Pastor

Dr W. Carlin Dempsey was born in Fredericksburg, Virginia where he grew up in a godly home.  While attending the Washington Bible College in Washington, DC, God called him into the ministry.  Upon graduation in 1972, he was brought on staff by Dr. Jerry Falwell at the Thomas Road Baptist Church in Lynchburg, Va.   From there God lead him to the Anchorage Baptist Temple in Anchorage, Alaska where he served as an assistant for Dr. Jerry Prevo whom Dr. Dempsey is close friends with to this day.

Dr. Dempsey has used sports as a tool to teach and reach to young people. In Alaska as well as in Virginia it was an important part of his ministry.  While coaching at a Christian school in Fairfax, Virginia he had 3 state championships and participated in the National Championship game in 1983.  During that time he coach J. D. Gibbs, son of Hall of Fame coach Joe Gibbs.  Dr. Dempsey became close friends with the Gibbs family and remains so to this day.  Dr. Dempsey’s final coaching position was in 1985 at Maranatha Baptist College as head football coach.  In 14 years of coaching Dr. Dempsey only had one losing season on the high school level and none on the college level.

In 1990 Dr. Dempsey entered the role of Sr. Pastor in Virginia and remained there for 5 years.  In 1995, King’s Highway Baptist Church called him on as pastor where he has served since then to this date.  With a passion for reaching people, Pastor Dempsey has lead Kings Highway Baptist Church to establish, King’s Kids Day Care, and South Stafford Christian Schools.   In 1999 Pastor Dempsey lead the church in acquiring property and building a 24,000 sqft. facility that currently houses the church, day care and Christian school.  Over the past 10 years the facility has been used to reach out into the community with concerts, dramas, pageantries, and special meetings to see people come to know Jesus Christ.

He is recognized by some of our nations leading pastors and leaders.  Many which call him their friend.  He serves on the Board of Directors for the Christian Broadcasting Inc. of Alaska.

Dr. Dempsey is the son of Dr. Willis A. Dempsey, retired pastor and who is an Associate Pastor of King’s Highway Baptist.

Dr. Dempsey is married to Linda Dempsey who is active in the music program at the church.  They have two sons, Matthew and Rev. Mark Dempsey, Executive Pastor of Kings Highway Baptist Church.
